Vehicle Immobilisation: Qualification

The Leadership Development Centre is currently the only approved training provider for the qualification for Vehicle Immobilisation in the North of England. This qualification is QCA/ACCA accredited and SIA endorsed.

Core competency training is delivered in two parts as follows:

Part One

Knowledge based training and assessment (21 hours)

• Introduction to wheel clamping and removals
• Introduction to the history of the service and the clamp and relevant legislation (Private Security Industry Act 2001)
• Signs, lines and enforcement vehicles
• Vehicle registration marks
• Health and Safety
• When to clamp and when to remove vehicles
• Vehicle tow away
• Completing paperwork
• Practical case studies (clamping, removal and paperwork)
• Use of photography
• The payment process
• Procedures for start and end of shift
• Radio operations
• Discretionary parking
• Standards of individual behaviour for vehicle immobilisers and customer care
• Equal Opportunities
• Appeals

Part Two

Practical scenario based training and assessment (14 hours)

• Avoiding conflict and reducing risk
• Defusing conflict
• Resolving conflict
• Post incident considerations and learning from conflict

These sessions are usually delivered over five days with an average course day of seven hours.

Vehicle immobilisers who have a qualification in vehicle immobilisation or other parking enforcement related activities (so long as the qualification was awarded by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority), may be exempt from Part 1 of the training. However, all candidates must attend and pass Part 2.
